There has been what is called an “above the line” deduction for certain taxpayers with qualifying tuition and related expenses for higher education for a number years.  This provision, which was due to expire, has been extended through the 2016 tax year, which means it can be used on your 2016 tax return, assuming you meet income requirements.  This deduction is not the best option as far as education expenses go, so get with me to find out the best path for you to take in your situation.
